The
Intergroup maintains a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week
answering service because it is our responsibility to ensure that the
hand of
AA is always available when the sick and suffering alcoholic reaches
out for
help. This is one of, if not the, most important tasks performed by
Intergroup.
We
use the call forwarding service offered by the telephone
company. When calls come in to the office during unmanned periods these
calls
are automatically forwarded to volunteers at their home or other
location. Some
volunteers use their cell phones so they are not restricted to staying
at home
for a number of hours. A 12-Step List, a list of names and phone
numbers of AA
members willing to perform twelfth step work when someone in their
local area
reaches out for help, is also maintained.
The
Answering Service Committee is always in need of
group and individual volunteers to perform the vital and rewarding
service of
answering the telephone when our office is closed. Individuals who are
willing
to perform twelfth step work are also vitally needed. If you or your
group
would like more information, or are willing to help ensure the hand of
AA is
always available when a sick and suffering alcoholic reaches out for
help
please contact
the
Intergroup Office.
