The Newcomer Angle

"In A.A. the reporting is clear and unmistakable. 'Here are the steps we took,' say those who have gone before. The newcomer finally sees that he, too, must take these steps before he is entitled to report on them. And in an atmosphere where the constant subject is 'What I did' and 'What I think,' no neurotic can long resist the temptation to get in on the action."

NEW VOLUNTEER orientation will be held on August 14th at 11am. Please let Kyle know at least one day in advance if you plan to attend by sending your name and phone number to kyle@nemdaa.org.

From the Institutions Chair:
Institutions has had a huge uptick in literature requests and has exhausted its small budget. Please consider creating a Spare Change Can for your meeting or by making an online contribution. The funds will be used to purchase Conference approved literature and make it freely available to those in need.

The Institutions Committee is looking for help to coordinate commitments in Cecil County. For more information contact Kyle, the Committee Chair, at kyle@nemdaa.org.

Service

From the Archive: Having confirmed in 1937 that the solution and the program of action could be reliably shared—l - one alcoholic to another, Bill W. and Bob S. discussed three projects: a book, a hospital for alcoholics, and paid alcoholic "missionaries." Only the book became a reality - Alcoholics Anonymous, better known as the "Big Book" (6 ½ x 9 ¼ x 1 5/8) and published in 1939.

HOME GROUP NEEDED to sponsor the Fall Breakfast at Level Hall Firehouse on Nov 16th. Please email events@nemdaa.org by August 20th.

Final Thought:

"Almost without realizing it, I was losing enough fear and gaining enough faith to feel okay...As I worked through the Steps slowly and sometimes hesitantly, my attitudes, my self-image, my relationships with other human beings - virtually everything in my life - changed. I no longer waned to run out in front of everybody and holler, 'Follow me!'"
