How A.A. Members Maintain Sobriety

"Members stay away from one drink, one day at a time. Sobriety is maintained through sharing experience, strength and hope at group meetings and through the suggested Twelve Steps for recovery from alcoholism."

MARYLAND AREA & AAWS NEWS

From the Area 29 Delegate: "As we begin to prepare for the 76th General Service Conference, our theme 'Humility in Action' reminds me of our singleness of purpose, to help the still suffering alcoholic. 'Humility in Action' isn't about inactivity or playing it safe. It's about serving with clear motives, rooted in our spiritual principles." Read the full Area 29 Delegate Report for August 2025 online for General Service Highlights and more.

October 11th - Area 29 Day of Sharing at Severna Park United Methodist Church from 9AM - 4PM. Theme: From Calamity to Serenity.

Institutions Committee

From the Institutions Chair:
Institutions has had a huge uptick in literature requests and has exhausted its small budget. Please consider creating a Spare Change Can for your meeting or by making an online contribution. The funds will be used to purchase Conference approved literature and make it freely available to those in need.

The Institutions Committee is looking for help to coordinate commitments in Cecil County. For more information contact Kyle, the Committee Chair, at kyle@nemdaa.org.

Service

From the Archive: Having confirmed in 1937 that the solution and the program of action could be reliably shared - one alcoholic to another, Bill W. and Bob S. discussed three projects: a book, a hospital for alcoholics, and paid alcoholic "missionaries." Only the book became a reality - Alcoholics Anonymous, better known as the "Big Book" (6 ½ x 9 ¼ x 1 5/8) and published in 1939.

HOME GROUP NEEDED to sponsor the Fall Breakfast at Level Hall Firehouse on November 16th. Please email events@nemdaa.org by August 20th.

Final Thought:

"My selfishness was the driving force behind my drinking. I drank to celebrate success and I drank to drown my sorrows. Humility is the answer...My sponsor tells me that service keeps me sober. Today I ask myself...Have I done service for my home group?"
