Access Overview 2022 Part 2

Fall-Winter 2022 News FINAL

Trifold-What is Accessibilities FINAL 27APR22

Happy Holidays!  Volume 4 of our Area 29 Accessibilities Newsletter’s Link is above.

We meet on December 18th at 3 PM.  Accessibilities Overview Part 2 with Francis G., Northeast Regional Trustee.  Francis presented Part 1 in April for us and plans to update us in December on anything and everything new and old in A.A. Accessibilities. This would be a great meeting to attend to orient yourself with the Alcoholics Anonymous Accessibilities Committees.  https://www.aa.org/service-committees

“Accessibilities Committees explore, develop, and offer resources to alcoholics with significant barriers to receiving the Alcoholics Anonymous message and to participating in our program of recovery. We want A.A. to be available to all alcoholics who reach out for it.” Please see the trifold link above which explains all that is involved with this committee.

The question of whether Accessibilities will ever be split into coordinated committees will be a hot topic at this meeting.  Until the General Service Office bifurcates this committee, most Areas will likely be reluctant to do so. However, the Cooperation with the Elder Community has been active in Texas since 2011, and we think that would be a good place to start reducing this Committee to more manageable sections. Discussion to follow.

Our committee meets on the 3rd Sunday of every month at 3 p.m.

https://pdacaa.org/  The PDAC Chair David F., Co-Chair Sophia P., and our friend, Alene R., have agreed to share with us and explain exactly how the PDAC committee functions. This committee is a liaison between Deaf AA members and AA groups.  PDAC pays for interpreters by accepting contributions from AA groups, districts, and individual AA members. Bring all of your questions, there will be time for Q&A.

Also on their website, they keep an up-to-date calendar of interpreted meetings and keep the sober Deaf community informed of changes. The calendar can be found at http://pdacaa.org/meetings.htm.

Accessibilities Workshop Would you like to see a local Accessibilities Workshop?  Our co-chair Jessica has had this on her radar, so all ideas and assistance would be welcome. Currently this is just a thought that may or may not take root.

The Sunshine Club – November 2022 Meeting:  The Sunshine Club has been going for quite some time. They bring A.A. meetings to members of the Fellowship who are unable to get out to regularly scheduled meetings due to accident, illness, medical conditions or other circumstances. During COVID, meetings were by telephone. Their website is: https://aasfmarin.org/committees. The Sunshine Club can be reached by email at sunshine@aasfmarin.org.  If you are interested in setting up a homebound visitation / traveling AA meeting scenario, this group would be a great place to start.  You are welcome to attend their orientations and they will share their guidelines with you.
